USA: New Yorkers protest against Barneys ‘racial profiling’.
Around a dozen protesters picketed outside of Barneys department store in Manhattan on Wednesday to express outrage over claims of racial profiling by the upmarket store’s security staff.
Recently, two African-American shoppers have come forward saying that they were stopped by the store’s security staff after making luxury purchases. The New York City Police Department (NYPD) got involved on each occasion.
The picket came as the New York Attorney General is set to look into allegations against not only Barneys, but also Macy’s department store.
The picket was called by Reverend Clinton Miller of Brooklyn, who personally spoke of his own fondness for the store.
