While the mayor of the city has suspended the project, the protests have spread beyond the capital of Castille to the capital and other parts of Spain.
On Thursday, a Spanish judge released a firefighter who was detained for allegedly defying police orders during a demonstration in solidarity with the Burgos demonstrators. Earlier in the day, his colleagues had gathered outside the Courts of Plaza Castilla in Madrid demanding his release.
